Our Story


Establisment
The company Lyskilde is established in Brædstrup, central Denmark. Their sole production is lampshades.
1961

Ball Lamp Series
Benny Frandsen establishes Frandsen Belysning in the basement of his private residence.
The only staff beside Benny are two boys who help him after school. Benny starts out with a study debt of 25,000 kroner.
He begins by designing square lamps as well as the iconic BALL lamp series, initially as a wall lamp model. BALL pendant, table and standard lamps are subsequently launched.
1968

First Prize
Benny Frandsen wins first prize for best design among hundreds of exhibitors at the LIGHTSHOW exhibition in London.
The award is given for the “Black or White” halogen lamp series.
Lyskilde (in Brædstrup) is acquired by the Friis furniture company.
1987

First Prize Again
Benny Frandsen wins first prize for the second consecutive year for best design at the LIGHTSHOW exhibition in London.
The award is given for the 3-Line series.
1988

Frandsen/Lyskilde
Frandsen Belysning is sold to the Friis furniture company. Frandsen Belysning merges with Lyskilde under the name Frandsen/Lyskilde A/S.
The Frandsen Project department is created. The purpose is to cater to hotels, restaurants, retail etc. The first giant lampshade with a diameter of 2 metres is produced.
An extensive range of ceramic lamps in fashionable colours is launched.
This year, 600,000 lampshades are produced for IKEA.
1993

B. Frandsen buys Frandsen Lyskilde
Benny Frandsen buys back Frandsen/Lyskilde A/S.
The company is particularly strong in the areas of home lighting, lampshades and technical lighting.
1996

Formland Design Prize
Benny Frandsen wins the Formland Design Prize for the Flyer series (halogen lighting).
1998

Formland Design Prize Again
The Formland Prize is awarded to Frandsen/Lyskilde for the intelligent mounting system developed specifically for glass lamps.
Launch of a new shop-in-shop concept in Idé Møbler furniture stores.
2000

Collaboration with Verpan
Frandsen/Lyskilde changes their name to Frandsen Lighting A/S.
Frandsen Lighting A/S establishes a collaboration with Verpan on the production of the VP Globe and Fun series designed by Verner Panton.
DNC Holding (Director of Sales Dorte Nørgaard) and Buhr Invest (Johannes Poulsen) step in as shareholders and join Frandsen/Lyskilde.
2003

Verpan
Frandsen Lighting A/S acquires Verpan.
2004

Frandsen Group
The Group now comprises Frandsen Lighting A/S, Frandsen Project and Verpan. The name is now FRANDSEN GROUP.
2005

New Headquaters
FRANDSEN GROUP moves to new headquarters – 6,000 square metres in Horsens, central Denmark – built for the sum of 43 million kroner.
Private label production sees significant growth in Danish and international furniture chains, especially BoConcept, Bolia, Idé Møbler and ILVA.
2009

Verpan Expands
VERPAN expands its product range to include furniture and rugs designed by Verner Panton.
2010

Additional 1,600 Sqm.
FRANDSEN GROUP expands its warehouse with an additional 1,600 square metres, making the total 7,600 square metres
2014

rewired
New brand rewired by Frandsen Project is launched.
2016

Verpan Flagship Store
First Verpan flagship store opens in Aarhus, Denmark.
2017

50th Anniversary
Benny Frandsen and the iconic Ball series celebrate their 50th anniversary.
